Sitar Arts Center is a finalist in Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s Board Leadership Showcase - April 16, 2015

Congratulations to Finalist Sitar Arts Center

A program of the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management is an annual award presented to a nonprofit in the Washington, DC metropolitan area that demonstrates outstanding organizational management.

The award winner is selected through a competitive process by a panel of 25 executives with a wide range of expertise. The program began in 1995 and is open to all Center members and any 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the Washington metropolitan area. The Washington Post Award Selection Committee evaluates applicant organizations in the areas of fiscal management, communication, organizational and resource development, planning, human resources, risk management, and use of technology.

Sitar Arts Center brings its diverse community together to give underserved children and youth the opportunity to explore and study the visual and performing arts in an afterschool safe haven. Join Sitar Arts Center's 15th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, May 7th from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at The Howard Theatre.

Open Arms Housing — Ground-Breaking Ceremony, April 30, 2015

Open Arms Housing Open House

Open Arms Housing invites you to celebrate the ground-breaking ceremony of our second permanent supportive housing residence, Owen House. Join us for this significant occasion Thursday, April 30 at 10 a.m., 1256 Owen Place, NE, in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, DC. Owen House will provide permanent housing for four homeless women with mental health issues and physical disabilities.

As you know, Open Arms’ other residence, The Dunbar, was the first in Washington, DC to implement the “Housing First’’ approach to assisting homeless women in a single site building. The Dunbar Building has had a phenomenal success rate, with 95 percent of its residents remaining in housing since residing at the facility. Owen House will have large one-bedroom apartments for each resident.
